Job advertisement: Research assistant (d/m/w) – pay grade 13 TV-L Berlin universities
‘The Geoinformation Lab for Environmental Planning at the Technische Universität Berlin is therefore offering a position as a research assistant (d/m/w) in the field of remote sensing. The aim of this position within the research project EO4Nature is:
- Development of methods to derive forest structure parameters (e.g. stand density,
height distribution, canopy closure) from remote sensing data (in particular LiDAR and Sentinel-1/-2). - Development of models to quantify carbon dynamics in forests, including
carbon losses due to disturbance events and carbon sequestration through regeneration processes. - Utilisation of LiDAR data and other remote sensing data to accurately determine forest structure and carbon
forest structure and carbon balancing over time. - Application of the developed models to analyse the carbon dynamics of forests in Germany.
- Investigation of the effects of disturbance events (e.g. storms, insect infestation) on forest structure and the carbon balance, as well as analysing regeneration processes.
Expected qualifications
- Successfully completed scientific university degree (Master, Diploma or equivalent) in a relevant field such as environmental sciences, geoecology, physical geography or a related field with a strong connection to remote sensing
- Experience in analysing remote sensing data, especially Lidar data and Sentinel-1/-2
- Knowledge of programming (R, Python) and machine learning
- Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the missing language skills.’
